Elements of mokuhanga
Title Text.
I studied for a BA in Printmaking at Glasgow School of Art (1999), and MA at Camberwell College (2002), and after several years of working and teaching in various print studios in the UK and Italy, I began to explore non-toxic alternatives to traditional printmaking methods. I had experimented with mokuhanga while at Camberwell, and was lucky to receive guidance and inspiration from Rebecca Salter (RA), who was part of the faculty at the time. I chose to produce the main body of my MA work using intaglio processes with which I was more familiar, but several years later this brief encounter provided a valuable starting point for a journey into the wonderful world of this versatile and ecological medium. It has now been 20 years since I started working with mokuhanga, and I continue to find inspiration and amazement at the possibilities it offers. |
